Hope you are well today and are warm and cosy wherever you are – the autumn weather really is coming in now – along with the dark! Eek!
Today I am linking up with Amanda over @RunningwithSpoons for the delightful ‘Thinking Out Loud’ – this week, Rants and Raves style!
Take a rant then a rave…
Rant – Halloween and the UK
Yes ok maybe I do moan about the UK a lot, trust me, if you were here you would too! But this relates to Halloween, which really isn’t celebrated here. Now you know that saying ‘what you don’t know about, you don’t miss?’- Well sadly in this case I do know and I do miss! Reading all these American blogs highlighting the joys of Halloween is making me crave it! I have heard some bloggers say it’s their favourite holiday! Now it must be good for them to say that!
And don’t get me started on how awesome Thanksgiving looks and how I wish we had that too….
Rave – Halloween in general
Ok so we don’t do Halloween to the max – but I am going to a Halloween party at my CrossFit box so I do get the chance to dress up. And it gives me another reason to watch one of my favourite films, Hocus Pocus. I just adore this movie, and it’s about as scary as I will get on Halloween!
Rant – Lifting and Weights
It has been scaring me recently the amount of blogs I read where people are simply going to a gym, picking up weights, barbells or kettle bells and lifting. Yes weight training is totally the way to go and I love that more people are into it but this really isn’t something you can do without help, at least to begin with. I do CrossFit, I love lifting, but I am coached. I have spent months learning technique and form and if I do something that isn’t right, you bet coach tells me about it!
If no one has taught you how to lift weights, you are risking serious injury. Please this is more a plea than a rant – find a trainer, coach, group session – a professional who can teach you the technique before you begin. It may look easy, you may have watched a million you tube videos but you still need to learn the form – lifting in front of a mirror isn’t enough to check!
So before you deadlift, clean, jerk, snatch, front/ back squat, thrusters or even do a kettle bell swing – make sure you have been coached on how to do it properly. Please.
Rave – Nut Butters
Check these bad boys out! Yes we found this stall at Camden Market on Sunday and couldn’t be more excited! A variety of nut butters, all stone milled and all made in a peanut free environment! Real nut heaven! After sampling them all pretty much, we set on buying these three – pecan butter, hazelnut butter and a one off secret special butter… almond and coconut butter blend. Woah that one in particular is just the creamiest, tastiest delight my mouth has ever had the pleasure of ingesting! Eat up or savour??
Rant – Orange is the New Black
So, we have one episode left of Orange is the New Black – well half an episode to be precise, we split the hour and a half in two. So, I have 45 minutes to watch for them to have to sort a lot of things out to make me happy. And I hate ending a series on a low note, or with unanswered questions. The biggest question I have right now is – ‘Is 45 minutes enough to make me actually like Piper?’ – right now I really really don’t!
Rave – New Raw Chocolate
David and I spotted this beauty in a health food store in London. Yet to try it (I know we are showing restraint!) but I just love raw chocolate, it has such a unique taste and texture – once you go raw, you won’t look at regular dark chocolate in the same way! And if I was going to pick any chocolate flavour, sour cherry and vanilla sounds so good! Actually just noticed it’s from Australia – Arman if you are reading this have you tried it?
And I think I will end here, why? Because I can think of so many raves but no more rants! And I don’t just want to create one! Aint got time for the negative!
Do you like Halloween?
Favourite nut butter? Would you eat up or savour a jar of deliciousness?
Orange is the New Black – did you actually like Piper? Or if you haven’t watched it, have you ever watched a TV series where you didn’t like the main character?
