Fighting Mental Health

Hi all,

My heart was so saddened this morning when I awoke to the news that one of my favourite comedians, actors, hero – Robin Williams, had taken his own life.

He brought so much joy to the world, and will continue to bring joy, smiles and laughs to us all, and generations to come, through his legacy.

Like so many of us, Robin was suffering from a mental health illness – a battle that, sadly, he no longer felt he had the strength to fight.

Mental illness does not make sense, to an outsider or to those affected – words simply cannot describe or explain the feeling of not being able to escape your own mind, to have that voice inside you that you cannot control.

So instead of asking why or looking for a reason to explain the illness, let’s simply talk.

You need to talk – it’s the only path to freedom. Whether it be an organisation, your friends, your family or even me – find someone and start talking.

You are not alone – it may feel like the loneliest place in the world right now, but there is a way out – talk.

And for those on the outside – don’t judge, don’t ask why, simply listen – you can be someone’s shining light.

Mental health should not be hidden behind a curtain – let’s face this together.
