Friday Favourites + Ep 25 of the Chase the Red Grape Podcast

Hi all,

So the day has finally come. I knew it would someday, I just didn’t know how soon.

I had to get glasses.

Now I am not one to toot my own horn, but my vision is still excellent (I can still read the bottom line of the text at the eye test!). But more and more time spent on screens was making my eye muscles really tired and sore. So the glasses will just give me a little boost to help my eyes stay strong, heathy and not strained.

I do however take this as a note for some personal reflection. My eyes are telling me ‘hey Jen, stop looking at a screen all day will you’. So as much as I will be using these glasses when I need to, I will also be reassessing the time I spend all day looking at screens. I, luckily, control my day so I can control my screen time. Everything I could have hoped for and more. 26 of my favourite songs, dancing and singing the night away, all beside the man who I had met exactly 12 years previous. One of the best nights of my life, truly!

Have you ever been literally bowled over with laughter? That’s exactly what we got when we saw Jason Byrne on Saturday. High expectations as we had seen him before but he did not disappoint. Laughter really does make you glow inside and out!

Favourite… Food/Drink – Indian Foodfood - chase the red grape

David and I checked out the last Hawkers market of the season in the Perth CBD and decided on some Indian food for dinner. Too dark for a picture but we loved dancing away to the Cuban band behind us. The goat curry and mango lassi in particular were on point!

Favourite moment of training – Deadlifts

Did a simple 2 rep deadlift during training today and it felt good. Sounds corny but deadlifts always make me feel happy and empowered!

Weekend Plans – Out tonight for a birthday party and then… Saturday – weekly shop, maybe lunch out, podcasting and food prep. Sunday – pancakes and newspapers, coffee out and a wonder around a local street festival. Then chill!

Friday Favourites + Ep 24 of the Chase the Red Grape Podcast

Hi all,

So the leaves are starting to turn here now. Luckily in Perth the bright blue sky and shining sun never seems to escape us though. This equates to beautiful days and rows upon rows of auburn trees shedding their leaves. I am having so much fun crunching all the leaves as I walk through the mounds that have fallen to the ground. Granted Perth is a weird one as I am doing all of this while still wearing my Birkenstock sandals and a t-shirt. Where else in the world do you experience autumn like this! I love it.

I particularly like it because it’s never too hot to do anything anymore. Summer is great but when you find yourself indoors all the time to escape the sun and heat, you find yourself constantly yearning for the outdoors. So we plan to make the most of our autumn (and into winter too, it doesn’t really change much more) and are making a list of all the fun things we want to do outdoors. Favourite… Moment – Picking up our flight packflights - chase the red grape

Yes in less than 6 weeks we will be heading back to the UK for our first holiday there since moving to Australia. I can’t wait to see my friends and family and soak in some good Scottish air. It’s going to be quite a whirlwind holiday! But flights booked, tickets received, insurance purchased so all set!

Favourite… Feeling – Excitement

I have been waiting for this weekend for months! Saturday we are going to see one of our favourite comedians Jason Byrne. He is Irish and we have seen him back in the UK – I am talking side splittingly funny. My abs hurt so much after the last time we saw him. And on Sunday we are off to see GreenDay! I have been a HUGE fan for so long but have never seen them live yet. In fact David and I first got talking all those years ago because our friend mentioned to us that we both love GreenDay.

Favourite… Purchase – Sports Massage

Last Saturday I went for a sports massage as a way to try and relieve some muscle tension that I was having as part of my post viral syndrome. That plus 4 years of CrossFit has left me very tense! I had to force myself to go as every massage I have had up until this point I have hated. But this was incredible. It wasn’t relaxing, but it wasn’t unpleasant either. It was more relieving, if that makes sense. I know I need to make this a priority from now on in my life. Sore and tight muscles be gone!

Favourite… Food/ Drink – Juicejuice - chase the red grape

This immune booster fresh juice from JuJuBerry was outstanding. Freshly pressed and chock to the max with beets, apple, ginger and lemon… refreshing doesn’t even come close to how good this was. Ever eat or drink anything and feel your tummy just glow?

Favourite moment of training – ANZAC Day

On Tuesday we had a public holiday to commemorate ANZAC Day (similar to Remembrance Day in the UK/ Veterans Day in the US). So as CrossFitters we commemorated in the only way we know how, to do a Hero WOD created after the loss of particular Aussie soldier (Brett Wood). We raised money, ate bacon, sweated together and celebrated life and living.

Weekend Plans – Saturday – Farmers market, weekly shop, food prep, dinner out (hello burgers and sweet potato fries!) and Jason Byrne. Sunday – Pancakes and newspapers, out for coffee, podcasting and GreenDay!

Friday Favourites – Oct 21

Hi all,

It’s the first full week back to normal after being away on holiday and you know what, I feel great!

It shows me that the holiday was exactly what I needed, a chance to explore, let my mind wonder and above all a rest from my daily life and routine.

You bet I’m tired after this week, but I’m also energised and enthused by all my potential work projects, my training, upcoming social activities and of course some good old summer fun!

It also helps that a few days ago we booked another holiday down south in December! Same place and I cannot wait to explore more. We aren’t one for being spontaneous with booking holidays but David still had some leave left to take and the pull to go back was just too great!Friday - chase the red grape

I know this is a bit of a cheat but it truly was one of my favourite moments of the week. Recapping everything and sharing it with you all, whether it be in a ‘Week in Review’ or a ‘What I ate Wednesday’ post, just brought so much happiness.

Favourite… Feeling – Excited!

Tomorrow David and I are heading to the BeauVine Food and Wine Festival here in Perth (as if we haven’t had our share of those already! Ha!). Wine, beer, cider, spirit and food producers from all over Western Australia will be ascending upon the festival to share tastings of their delicious creations with those lucky to attend. Weather is looking stunning, we get our ‘tasting’ glass as we enter… fill us up! (Oh and I will be snapchatting – chaseredgrape)

Favourite… Purchase – Greenday Tickets

When David and I first met, we bonded over our love of Greenday. We were at a friends birthday party, ‘Basket Case’ came on and the rest is history! So when I saw they were doing a world tour… and then found out they were coming to Perth, I freaked out! 10am Tuesday morning I bought tickets as soon as they were released. Cannot wait for April!

I picked this up as a road trip snack and have already tried another flavour. This stuff is amazing! Water, ACV and some fruit pulp is all it consists of and I am already addicted.

Oh I do love a bit of Fight Gone Bad! I tend to do best with these kind of endurance WOD’s and loved being able to do this RX for the first time. Gaining strength every day!
